Sustainable Community Development

Image
Institute of Solar Technology has been established by "Global Advanced Training & Educational Trust". IST is an academic and research-oriented self project that has worked in partnership with companies, women's organizations, community development associations and sociological research institutes. Join with us and build Sustainable Community. NGOs have shown leadership in promoting sustainable community development. Due to their particular ideology and nature, NGOs are good at reaching out to the poor and remote communities and mobilizing these populations. They can also empower these populations to regain control of their lives and can work with and strengthen local organizations. In addition, such NGOs can carry out projects more efficiently and at lower costs than government agencies and, most importantly, promote sustainable development. The five dimensions of sustainable community development are as follows: Increasing local economic diversity Self ...

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES for the 21st Century

Image
"Empowering people for sustainable energy" The economic development of modern societies is crucially dependent on energy. Energy is vital for sustainable development. The methods of production, supply and consumption of energy are key issues in sustainable development because they strongly affect the local and global environment. India is the world’s seventh-largest energy producer and the fifth-largest energy consumer, accounting for more than 4% of total global annual energy consumption. India needs to shift to non-polluting renewable sources of energy to meet future demand for electricity for economic as well as environmental development. Renewable energy will provide long-term economic growth for India. Renewable energy has the potential to re-energize India’s economy by creating millions of new jobs, allowing the country to achieve energy independence, reduce its trade deficits and propel it forward as a “Green Nation.” To build stable and sustainable com...

Solar rooftop subsidy for 10,000 customers in Tamil Nadu

Image
the hindu business line , CHENNAI, OCT. 24:   Spend Rs 50,000, put up a rooftop solar plant, save Rs 9,200 a year — this is the Tamil Nadu Government’s pitch to domestic electricity consumers. The Government today issued an order making available a capital subsidy of Rs 20,000 for each 1 kW solar rooftop system, formalising a promise made by the Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in April. The Tamilnadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), which is the renewable energy development arm of the State Government, pegs the cost of a 1 kW solar rooftop system at Rs 1 lakh. The Government of India gives a subsidy of Rs 30,000. As such, the investor needs to bring in only Rs 50,000 (TN gives another Rs 20,000). TEDA reckons that the solar system will generate 1,600 units a year. At a tariff of Rs 5.75 per kWhr, the annual savings works out to Rs 9,200. The subsidy will be given on ‘first come first served’ basis. It will be given only to grid-connected, battery-less systems, and ...
