IST on Thursday, 7th November, 2013 celebrated CV Raman's 125th birthday by dedicating this free E-course - "The Power Is In Your Hands" for children. For kids of all ages, there is always something new to learn about science and technology. IST supports Solar Energy education through educational online content.

Because of a growing interest in renewable energy and the increasingly competitive prices of alternative energy sources, solar power has received a lot of attention over the past several years. However, solar power generation itself is not new; it has been used for more than half a century, mostly on a small scale or for specialized purposes, such as generating electricity for spacecraft and satellites or for use in remote areas.

Course contents of  - "The Power Is In Your Hands"

1. Energy Efficiency Green Roofs
These lessons are assembled to give a rounded explanation of green building, the structure of a basic house, how the house performs as a thermal envelope, the importance and science of air quality and some methodology on the advances in home testing that will expose energy loss in a finished house.

2. Energy Efficiency Science
This curriculum provides energy efficiency and green roofs lessons to be integrated into high school science courses.

Eligibility of participants

• It is open for children in the age of 10 to 14 years (lower age group) and from 14+ to 17 years (upper age group).
• No one can do the project – study under a teacher guide.
• Parents, whose child would participate in the E-course, should be support to get online course materials.

• Free admission & free raffles of "green" and solar-powered items.
