Needs more awareness about solar energy

Poor awareness hampers switch to solar power
The suppliers approved by the nodal agency for promotion of renewable energy in the state say that the efforts to promote solar energy among the public is hampered by low awareness. Many don't know the gains of solar power and how to go about to install a solar system, if at all one likes to have one. As elsewhere, majority of the people in Madurai district do not even know where and who should be approached for the installation of solar power panels. The awareness is low even among the educated, say the approved suppliers.  ..............
......................  Although, solar panel installation is profitable in the long run very less number of persons are approaching for the installation due to lack of awareness.  Source- The Times of India

WHY IST?

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

IST energy awareness principles-
The energy awareness principles set out a broad framework from which to teach about solar energy topics.

Why are these topics important?
  • Energy issues come up in many contexts such as:
  • The role of fossil-fuel based energy as the driving cause of climate change and thus the primary solution.
  • Other environmental consequences for energy use, such as oil spills, acid mine drainage, and nuclear waste.
  • New developments in alternative energy technologies, energy efficiency, and energy policy.
  • One's personal stake in energy consumption.
Our educational projects
In India, and as part of the Shyamsundar Child and Women Development Society, IST has committed to participate in demonstrative and educational activities related to solar energy.
This responsible approach arose from an observation: generating public awareness - especially among youths - regarding renewable energy sources as an essential factor of the energy transition. Solar energy inspires wonder and is much talked about, but the way it works and its applications are still relatively unknown.
Also, in order to initiate youths and provide other audiences with the keys to understanding the issues of solar energy, IST's teams have developed several educational projects.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

Main Objective

  • To assess the awareness of youth towards renewable source of energy.

Sub-Objective

  1. To assess the awareness of youth towards solar energy resources and their benefits.
  2. To assess their perceptions about largest source of renewable resources.
  3. To assess their willingness to pay premium for renewable source of energy.
  4. To assess their perception about solar energy and its business functions
  5. To assess their awareness of campaign and importance of different habits to save environment.
  6. To know the preference of youth to spread the awareness and to contribute to the cause as an individual.

When one rural youth can install solar system at his/her own preemies, and promote other one to install solar system, then we can say we are success to create awareness about solar energy.

Thirty percent of the world's population is under the age of eighteen, according to UNEP, which is why educating children and young adults about environmental problems is crucial to long-term success. This will help them foster a sense of responsibility and they will make choices that help the environment rather than harm it.
