1 KW Roof-Top Solar PV system
The Solar Photovoltaic system installed in this zero energy model building is of 1 kW capacity. The system is designed to support total connected load up to 3 kW.

Keeping this in mind Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India is promoting off-grid solar PV systems under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission in the country. Components of a Roof Top PV system
A typical Roof Top PV system also contains a set of batteries and inverter along with the modules of Solar PV cells. The overall efficiency of the system will also depend on the type of battery and inverter used in the system. It is important to choose the right components for most effective use of Solar PV systems.
A 1 kW solar roof top could be set up in an area as small as just 100 square feet.
This could be used to energise 2 tube lights, 2 fans, and even a fridge. Leave alone these appliances, you could even run your air conditioner with 1 kW solar panel, provided you do not use it for anything else.
The cost of installing a 1 kW solar panel could be between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh complete with a battery and an inverter. MNRE provides 30% capital subsidy on capital expenditures for rooftop solar systems for both commercial and residential entities for systems up to 100 kW. The government also provides loans at 5% per annum for 50% of the capital expenditure for 5 years tenure for both commercial and residential entities. Commercial entities can claim either capital or interest subsidies.
