Solar PV panelThe New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is working hard to earn the tag of ‘solar city’ for the New Delhi area of the national capital as it has framed a detailed plan for the rooftop solar energy generation.
The chairman of NDMC Jalaj Shrivastava has said that they have identified 40 buildings in the area, which fall under their jurisdiction for the installation of rooftop solar panels.
The buildings on which the roof top panels will be set up include NDMC schools, hospitals, offices, sub-stations, inquiry offices etc. An NDMC official said that they choose their own buildings for the pilot project as we did not require a ‘no objection certificate’ from any agency.

WB Govt plans world`s biggest solar power project in Purulia

The West Bengal government has placed a proposal to the Centre for setting up a 250MW solar power project near the Purulia Pumping Storage Project (PPSP) at Baghmundi for an estimated cost of Rs 1,700 crore.
This will be the world`s biggest solar power project if the state gets the nod from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.
The state Power minister Manish Gupta spoke about the plan at a national seminar organized by Ashden India Renewable Energy Collective - a group of Indian Ashden award winners headed by solar power expert and former adviser to the state power department, S P Gon Chaudhuri. Mr. Gupta said discussions have taken place with central government officials on the proposed project. The Centre has agreed in principle, he said.
The new budget for 2014-15 will be the first of the recently elected government in India. The expectations are high, but the finance minister has to walk a tightrope to ensure fiscal prudence in an economy that has been handed over to him in a bad shape.

The interim budget for 2014-15 presented by the outgoing government announced allocation of funds for setting up ultra-mega solar power projects but lowered the budgetary allocations to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and did not extend the 10 year income tax holiday for new solar projects.

India Sets Year-on-Year Targets to Reach Ambitious 2022 Solar Goal In 2014, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a goal to  increase solar power      capacity to 100 Giga watts (GW) by 2022 —five times higher than the previous target. The 2022 target is extremely ambitious (the world’s total        installed solar power capacity was  181 GW in 2014 ) and would make India a global leader in renewable energy.
